On March  11. marts, Japan experienced the worst disaster since World War II. Since the Tsunami in 2011 there has been a hugh job of restoring and cleaning. This job has now – about 1 year after – costed about 250.000.000 USD and that is without the cost of stopping the ther disaster at the neuclear plant “Fukushima 1″- which alone might cost about 100.000.000 USD to stop and rebuild.

The biggest earthquake to hit Japan in 140 years struck the northeast coast on Friday, triggering a 10-metre tsunami that swept away everything in its path, including houses, cars and farm buildings on fire. A tsunami warning has been issued for the entire Pacific basin except for the mainland United States and Canada following a huge earthquake that hit Japan on Friday, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

We arrived from Denmark on the north side of Kandersteg. We had 2 ways to pass the mountain – one solution was to drive
200 km extra and the other solution was to take the Kandersteg train which drive right through the mountain.
There are two train tunnels during the mountain, so two trains can pass eachother inside the mountain. The tunnels are
just big enought so the trains can pass.
We parked in the train line and waited for green light at the train station. When the train was ready, the lights on the
traficlight went green and we began to drive onboard the train. The train and all the car-carriers was parked about
1 meter beneth the parking lot, so all the cars could easily go directly onto the train in one long row.
All the cars must turn off engines while they are onboard – and remember to close all open windows in the car, to awoid
the hugh amount of smoke and smog in the tunnels
The drive takes about 20 min or so, and it is quit nice because all the cars have light turned on inside the cars and outside
it is total blackout.
When the train drive is over, the train will stop and it is easy to drive off and you are on the other side of the
mountain. Very easy and very nice trip. We will certainly take the Kandersteg train again next time we spend vacation in
Leukerbad.

In the hugh outdoor stainless pool, there are a recreation area with laying chairs in the water with jacuzzy
functions.
If the Jazuzzy is not hard enought, you can use the underwater steamer which offers heavy steam to loosen up tired
mushels.

Historians usually judge the Vietnam War to  be one of the most important conflicts of the
twentieth century.

During the nine years of official  American involvement in the Vietnam War over
two million Vietnamese and 58,219 Americans  lost their lives.
The war took place during, and became intertwined  with, the turbulent 1960s. The volatile mixture of
Vietnam, the counter culture, and the Civil Rights  Movement led to a near breakdown in the American
body politic. In 1968, amid a spate of riots and  assassinations, many observers thought that the
United States was on the brink of a second  American Revolution.
In the years that have passed since the end of American  involvement in the Vietnam War, it has become clear
that the conflict formed a watershed in American, and  certainly Vietnamese history. The impact of the war was
felt worldwide, from the ‘Killing Fields’ of Cambodia  and the ethnic cleansing of Hmong tribesmen in Laos,
to social upheaval in Europe.
The victorious Vietnamese communists inherited a  country that had been ravaged by 30 years of
constant warfare. The infrastructure of a nation lay  in ruins and millions of refuges wandered the
battered countryside.

 

Interesting places in Vietnam:

• Cu Chi Tunnels – One of the most impressive aspects of the Vietnam War was the Tunnel War, where the
Viet Cong insurgents throughout South Vietnam  created a vast network of tunnels that served as staging
areas and defensive sanctuaries. In the Cu Chi area,  over 100 miles of tunnels connected nearly every
village and hamlet and contained living quarters,  hospitals and armament factories. The tunnels were
impervious to all but a direct hit. The US forces  discovered the importance of the tunnel complexes
and countered by sending lone warriors, dubbed  “Tunnel Rats” to engage in a bitter, underground war,
armed only with pistols, flashlights and hand to hand combat.

• Hue – Ordained as a World Heritage site, this capital  of the Nguyen emperors is where tourists come
and see something of old, pre-communist Vietnam,  many of the buildings have borne the brunt of war
and wilful neglect. Hue owes its charm partly to its  location on the Perfume River – picturesque on a
clear day, sleekly mysterious in less flattering weather.

• Ha Noi – Is the most graceful, atmospheric and  exotic capital city in Asia, with its sweeping
boulevards, tree-fringed lakes, ancient pagodas  and a relatively compact historic centre that’s best
explored on foot. A constant tide of motorbikes  swarm through the web of streets of the Old Quarter,
a cauldron of commerce for almost 1000 years.

Life is  carried out on the streets, as hawkers in conical hats
ply their wares.

Denmark have beaten Serbia in their final game at the EHF European Handball  Championships 2012.   The game ended 21-19 to Denmark and Serbia was never close to win the game.

Serbia will have to make do with second place following the Danes’ impressive  of 21-19 win. However, the Serbia team were clearly not putting their all into the  game and were happy when it ended.

In Leuk, there is a long walking bridge where you can walk over the Blischesgaben. We went there during summertime
and the river was totally dry, but I assume there will be heavy water flooding during spring when the ice and snow
are melting from the mountains.The bridge is not easy to find
and the bridge is not mentioned or shown in any books about the Leuk or Leukerbad district.
If you are in the area of Leuk or Leukerbad area, I really recommend to go and explore the bridge
and the beautiful nature in the area.
The bridge can be found, by follow the map shown at the end of this post below.

On the main road in Leuk, when you drive west, take the last roundabout and drive approx. 200-300 metres and turn left. Follow the small road for about 1 km and park the car at one of the small Parking spots. Follow up the small road by foot for about 200-300 metres and you will see
the bridge on your right hand.

Absolutly a must see, if you are in the area of Leukerbad.

The area and bridge is open for public and free to use.
